The Jackson County 1st Origin Story

It started with a simple idea: neighbors helping neighbors.

In August 1954, a group of Jackson County teachers did something quietly remarkable. They pooled their money together — not to get rich, but to make sure that the people who showed up every day to educate the children of this community could afford a car to get there, cover an unexpected bill, or save for a future they believed in.

They called it the Jackson County Teachers Credit Union, and from the very beginning, it was built on trust. Not the kind printed in a policy manual — the kind you earn when you know someone's name, their family, and what they're working toward.

The founding members weren't bankers. They were educators. They understood that a community is only as strong as the people who invest in it — and they put that belief into practice every single day.

The roots ran deeper than a classroom.

Over time, the credit union grew the same way a good community does — organically, deliberately, one relationship at a time. Employees of the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners joined the family. So did the hardworking men and women clocking in at Walmart, building their lives right here in Marianna.

Each expansion wasn't just about adding members. It was a reaffirmation of the founding promise: if you serve this community, this credit union serves you.

In 2016, the doors opened wider.

After more than six decades of faithful service, Jackson County 1st Credit Union took its most expansive step yet — opening membership to anyone who lives or works in Jackson County. The name on the door had evolved, but the heartbeat hadn't changed one beat.

Because here's what seventy years will teach you: the best financial services isn't about transactions — it's about people. It's about the family buying their first car, the small business owner who needs a real conversation instead of a call center, and the teacher who still drives to work every morning in a community she loves.

Today, Jackson County 1st Credit Union is still locally managed, still locally decided, and still locally yours.

Every loan approved, every account opened, every question answered happens right here — by people who live in the same zip code you do, shop at the same stores, and cheer for the same Friday night football team.

That's not a marketing promise. That's a 70-year track record, and we’re just getting started.

People. Principles. Purpose. Since 1954.
